The Government of Kazakhstan has approved a five-year plan to boost the development of selection and seed production of agricultural crops, aiming to allocate 63.4 billion tenge for the initiative. The plan aims to reduce the country's reliance on seed imports, which currently accounts for 90% of the market, by increasing the use of domestic seeds and elite seeds from the current 5% and 7.1%, respectively. The plan also focuses on modernizing the industry through the introduction of a digital seed traceability system, collaborations with leading scientific centers, and updating the legislative and regulatory framework. The goal is to increase the share of domestically selected seeds in cultivated areas from 51.7% to 78.2% by 2028.
