Lithuania's average milk purchase price in February dropped by 15.4% from January and 18.3% year-on-year to 37.5 euros per 100 kilograms, according to the EU Dairy Market Observatory. This is the lowest price since October 2021. The European Union's average milk price in February was 54.8 euros, down 2.7% from January but 28.9% up from February 2022. The Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture is proposing short-term measures to stabilize the industry, including eight million euros in support for farmers. This follows farmer protests against the significant reduction in raw milk purchase prices. The ministry attributes the price drop to a sharp decrease in prices for dairy products in foreign markets.
