In May, Ukraine set a record for sugar exports, with 65% being sent to the EU and 35% to other countries, totaling 108,000 tons. Despite government restrictions on sugar exports to the EU, producers have managed to restore routes to both the EU and the world market. Sugar beet is expected to remain one of the most profitable crops in Ukraine, with 'Radehivsky Sugar' being the country's largest sugar producer in 2023. However, a surplus of 1.6 million tons is expected in the global sugar market for the 2023/24 marketing year due to high oil prices supporting the market. Despite challenges such as war and high energy prices, Ukraine has the potential to increase sugar exports by more than two times.
