In recent years, particularly in the districts of Suruç and Harran, producers have started planting peanuts instead of cotton. Trial plantings have yielded higher than expected results, rapidly increasing peanut production in the region. Peanut production, which was carried out on 133 hectares in 2023, reached 8,000 hectares in 2024. This increase revealed that the agricultural product pattern in Şanlıurfa had changed significantly, with over 10,000 hectares of farmland dedicated to peanuts by 2025. Farmers noted that peanuts require less irrigation and care compared to cotton production, yet yield high returns.
