Saudi Arabia's National Center for Research and Development of Sustainable Agriculture (Estidamah) has made a breakthrough in producing asparagus in greenhouses, aiming to strengthen food security and meet domestic demand. This innovation allows for year-round cultivation and can be integrated with fruit tree cultivation for efficient land use. The asparagus has shown an annual yield of approximately 700 grams per square meter. This development has the potential to significantly reduce the country's import dependency, currently at about 340,000 tonnes annually, and support the tourism and hospitality sectors. This initiative is in line with the National Agriculture Strategy, focusing on increasing sustainability and ensuring food security.
