The article highlights a significant surge in onion prices in Serbia, with a kilogram now costing between 200 to 300 dinars (1.70 to 2.55 euros) in various markets, due to a combination of factors. These include a domestic shortage, increased export of diseased onions, adverse weather conditions impacting production, and higher production costs leading to higher purchase prices. The article points out that the high costs are justified by producers, but concerns are raised about the price markups by distributors. The import of onions is currently predominantly from Egypt, the Netherlands, Germany, and Kyrgyzstan.
