Russia: The tomato harvest in the Astrakhan region increased by 5%, to 804 thousand tons

According to preliminary data, farmers in the Astrakhan region have harvested 804 thousand tons of tomatoes, which is 5% more than last year. The tomato harvest has been completed, the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries told TASS. "The tomato harvesting campaign has been completed. According to current data, 804 thousand tons of tomatoes have been harvested this year, while last year it was about 764 thousand tons," the regional ministry said. According to the department, the increase in the tomato harvest was achieved by increasing the sowing area on some farms and opening new enterprises. In particular, this year a large plant for the production of "Tomarina" tomato paste was put into operation in the Krasnoyarsk region; the enterprise harvested about 60 thousand tons of tomatoes from an area of 650 hectares.
