In the first half of this year, South Korea's frozen mackerel import volume increased by 8% year-on-year

In June, the import volume was 1,624 tons, a sharp increase of 363% compared to 351 tons in the same period last year.

Norway remains the largest supplier of frozen mackerel to South Korea, accounting for 81% of the country's import volume with 31,078 tons in the first half of 2025, followed by China with 3,424 tons (9%), and the United Kingdom and the Netherlands supplying 1,510 tons and 1,167 tons, respectively.

Norwegian mackerel is priced at $2.80 per kilogram, Chinese mackerel at $1.85 per kilogram, and Dutch mackerel at $2.84 per kilogram.

In June, South Korea's frozen mackerel import value reached $4.42 million, a 538% increase from $690,000 in the same period last year, with the cumulative import value in the first half of the year reaching $10.297 million, an 80% increase from $57.34 million in the same period of 2024.
