Specifically, in September, Vietnam exported 20,487 tons of various types of pepper, with an export value of 136.3 million USD. Although compared to the previous month, the export volume and export value decreased by 4.6% and 2.5% respectively, compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased significantly by 19.5%, and the value increased by 23.2%.
The average export price continued to rise. Black pepper reached 6,490 USD/ton, up 2.4% from the previous month; white pepper reached 8,679 USD/ton, up 1.4%. Vietnam's pepper prices remained stable at 6,600-6,800 USD/ton, which has a competitive advantage compared to other major producing countries.
In the first nine months, Vietnam's pepper export volume was 186,997 tons, down 6.9%, but the export value increased significantly by 27.6%, reaching over 1.26 billion USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the average export price increased significantly, with black pepper reaching 6,647 USD/ton (up 1,795 USD) and white pepper reaching 8,716 USD/ton (up 2,254 USD).
The United States remains Vietnam's largest export market for pepper, accounting for 21.4% of total exports, but down 30.4% from the same period last year, reaching 39,979 tons. Meanwhile, Vietnam's exports to China increased significantly by 73.3%, reaching 15,353 tons, accounting for 8.2% of the market share; exports to the UAE reached 14,848 tons, up 12.8%; and India and some European markets showed steady growth. This indicates that the pepper export market structure is changing, with the role of Asian markets increasing.
On the other hand, Vietnam is also actively importing pepper for processing and re-export. In the first nine months, the cumulative import volume reached 36,112 tons, with an import value of 225.7 million USD, up 51.9% and 121.1% respectively from the same period last year. The increase in raw material imports indicates that the domestic pepper industry is strengthening processing activities to meet the needs of high-value niche markets.
In addition to pepper, cinnamon continues to be a bright spot in the spice export industry. In September, Vietnam exported 7,433 tons of cinnamon, with an export value of 17.9 million USD.
