Hungary is emerging as a leader in organic farming, with the country seeing a significant increase in organic farming areas and ranking 10th globally in the expansion of ecoregions for organic farming. The Ecological Agricultural Research Institute (ÖMKi) is playing a key role in this growth, promoting practices that enhance biodiversity and climate resilience. In 2019, Hungary became the 12th largest organic fruit-producing country in the world. The European Commission is set to release the Organic Farming Action Plan to reach a 25% European ecoregion target by 2030, a goal that Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe aim to support. The global organic products market reached €106 billion in 2019, with the European Union's organic food market growing at an annual rate of 8-10%.
