A recent report by the OECD and FAO forecasts a 15% rise in global food consumption by 2029, attributed to income growth, dietary shifts, and health and environmental trends. The consumption of agricultural and marine products, currently divided into 52% food, 31% feed, and 17% fuel and other industries, is expected to shift towards feed and biofuel in high-income countries. The production of agricultural and livestock products is anticipated to largely increase in developing countries like South America, India, and Africa, with crops expected to see a significant increase by 2029. However, the report also acknowledges the short-term challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the agri-food sector, including reduced consumption and disrupted production and distribution.
