It is often mentioned in the agricultural sector that Argentina is at a competitive disadvantage compared to competitor countries, which have lower input costs and better prices for grains, due to not having withholdings. To give precision to this statement, two economists from IERAL, of Fundación Mediterránea, put numbers to this widespread feeling in the countryside, and confirmed that producing in Argentina is more expensive than in the countries it competes with. According to the survey, conducted in September, the country presents higher prices in dollars for most of the 13 analyzed agricultural and livestock inputs and services compared to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the United States. The study compared six groups of goods - fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, freight transport, fuel, and machinery - and the results show that Argentina was more expensive in 69% of the cases compared to its regional neighbors, and in 54% compared to the United States.
