India has lifted its ban on the export of non-basmati white rice, which was in place since July 20, 2023, and will now mandate a minimum export price (MEP) of $490 per tonne. This decision comes in response to requests from countries like Nepal, Mauritius, and Namibia, among others, and also following queries from the UK, US, and Japan about the status of the export ban. India's non-Basmati white rice exports, primarily to Kenya, Mozambique, and Cameroon, reached $852 million in FY24, with $188.86 million worth of shipments from April to July FY25, largely to Malaysia and Guinea.
