Bangladesh's interim government, led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, has initiated the import of 200,000 tonnes of rice from India to address the impact of severe floods. The first shipment of 27,000 tonnes has already arrived via Chittagong port. In addition to this agreement, the government plans to import an additional 100,000 tonnes of rice through a tender and 1.6 million tonnes privately. Bangladesh has removed all tariffs on rice imports to stabilize prices. The country is also discussing rice imports with Vietnam and Pakistan and has signed a deal with Myanmar to import 100,000 tonnes of rice. India has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the interim government.
