India has emerged as the global leader in the export of pickled canned cucumbers and gherkins, with shipments exceeding 123,000 tonnes in the April to October 2021 period. The country's exports were valued at $114 million. In the previous financial year, India had exported 223,515 metric tons worth $223 million. The history of cucumber and gherkin cultivation, production, processing, and export in India began in the early 1990s in Karnataka and has since expanded to neighboring states. Today, India contributes nearly 15% to the global gherkin cultivation and production.
