India's palm oil imports in 2021/22 decreased by 4.8% compared to the previous year, dropping to 7.9 million tonnes from 8.3 million tonnes, due to high prices and restrictions on exports from Indonesia. This decline in palm oil imports led to a significant increase in soybean oil imports, which surged by 45.3% to a record high of 4.17 million tonnes. The total expenditure on importing edible oils in India reached a record 1.57 trillion Indian rupees in 2021/22, marking a 34% increase from the previous year.
