The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India has announced new guidelines for exporting halal-certified fresh and frozen meat and meat products from India to 15 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bangladesh. These guidelines state that exports must be from facilities certified under the 'Indian Conformity Assessment Scheme (I-CAS) – Halal' of the Indian Quality Council. Exporters will be required to provide a valid certificate to the buyer after shipment. The countries include Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, and Turkey. The global halal food market, which was valued at $1.97 trillion in 2021, is expected to reach $3.9 trillion by 2027.
