India has received help from the Philippines, the world's second largest banana exporter, to train growers in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The Indian banana growers learned, among other things, how much fertilizer to use, what the best cultivation practices are and when to perform certain actions. Indian exporters are also trying to boost the number of banana shipments abroad. The numbers already show an upward trend. India exported $157.86 million worth of bananas in 2022, up from $99.86 million in 2021, according to the Directorate General of Trade Information and Statistics.
