Indian breeders test new varieties of colored mangoes

The Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture (CSIH) in India, formerly known as the Central Mango Research Station, is working on releasing two new coloured mango varieties, EastFruit reports. The Awadh Samridhi and Awadh Madhurima varieties are currently undergoing field trials. Awadh Samridhi is a climate-tolerant hybrid variety that will bear fruit regularly. Each fruit weighs about 300 grams. The medium-sized tree, suitable for intensive gardening, reaches 15-20 feet in 15 years, making it easy to maintain. Its ripening season is in July and August. As FreshFruitPortal notes, due to their vibrant yellow-green hue, medium size and long shelf life, these varieties have great export potential, especially in the European and US markets, where coloured mango varieties are preferred.
