The article highlights the concerns of onion farmers in Perambalur district over the underutilization of the Common Food Processing Incubation Center (CFPIC) in Chettikulam village. The facility, which was completed in 2017, is designed to add value to onions by producing products such as onion powder, paste, and peeled onions. However, issues with the power supply and marketing of the processed products have hindered its efficiency. Despite these challenges, the center has managed to process 44 tons of shallots and 15 tons of garlic since its inception. The CFPIC has the capability to process 300 kg of shallots per hour and could potentially process much more with the existing machines. This center is a part of the government's 'Mission Onion Programme' aimed at doubling onion growers' income by 2022.
