The National Federation of Sugar Producers of Ecuador (Fenazúcar) has succeeded in increasing the price of sugar cane from 31.70 to 35.05 dollars per ton. The organization is now set to discuss the new pricing with producers. However, the Ministry of Agriculture intends to use legal means to safeguard the interests of the most deprived sectors in the production chain. The Ecuadorian sugar agribusiness is a significant employer, with 38,000 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs, according to Fenazúcar.
