The domestic pepper market in Vietnam has flatlined after a strong gain in the previous session, with prices ranging from 77,000 VND/kg in Gia Lai to 80,000 VND/kg in Ba Ria - Vung Tau. The export situation to China has improved but clearance capacity remains low due to Covid-19 measures. Sri Lanka's pepper production in 2022 is projected to be no more than 20,000 tons, due to heavy rainfall, and the industry will face high competitive pressure from Vietnam and Brazil. Meanwhile, raw sugar for July term futures on the ICE floor remained steady, and white sugar prices on the London bourse fell to a two-month low. Sugar prices are expected to remain under pressure due to a low global surplus and higher-than-expected production in India and other Asian countries.
