After just a few days, the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in small ruminants increased from 67 to 97, affecting over 10,000 animals, prompting Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev to convene an emergency meeting of the Central Epizootic Council, held at the Council of Ministers. To ensure a coordinated, swift, and uncompromising response, the Deputy Prime Minister stated. Currently, the highest concentration of the disease is in the Plovdiv region, where 70 outbreaks have already been eliminated. "To successfully deal with the spread of the disease, the state and the industry must unite their efforts in implementing stricter and more effective measures. These include enhanced border control and decisive actions against illegal animal trade – one of the main causes of the spread of infection," emphasized Tomislav Donchev.
