The Spanish Citrus Association (Intercitrus) is calling for urgent action from the European Commission due to the detection of 26 pests and diseases in citrus imports from third countries, including quarantine pests such as black spot, false citrus moth, citrus scab, and citrus bacterial canker. The majority of these detections were made in imports from South Africa and Brazil. In addition to these pests, false moth was also detected in roses imported from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. Intercitrus has criticized the European Commission's lax approach to these phytosanitary risks and is urging for accelerated research and authorization of effective phytosanitary and biological solutions to combat the threat posed by these pests and diseases.
