The Rural Development Administration and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Research and Technology Institute have developed a new variety of peanuts called 'Udo Olle-1', which is popular in Udo due to its higher oleic acid content and improved health functionality and storage properties. This new variety has a softer texture, savory taste, and a 16% higher yield than conventional peanuts. It also has 2.2 times more oleic acid, which extends the food preservation period and improves blood cholesterol. A plant patent for ‘Udo Olle-1’ has been applied, and the plan is to supply seeds to Udo growers from the next year to replace 100% of conventional varieties by 2025.
