Farmers in the Sissala enclave are facing significant challenges due to delayed and irregular rainfall patterns, which are causing crops, particularly maize, to wither and dry up. This season's farming activities have been severely affected, leading to concerns about an upcoming famine. The prolonged dry spell has intensified the financial strain on smallholder farmers who have already invested heavily in crop production inputs. Some farmers have reported over 30 acres of crop damage and complete crop death in large tracts of farmlands. Agriculture directors and the Ghana Meteorological Services Agency have acknowledged the severe dry spell and have recommended irrigation as a potential solution. The Agency had previously warned of the prolonged dry spell but did not anticipate it would extend into August.
