Brazil: Irrigated Fruit Farming is the new development vector for Northeast Goiás

The Vão do Paranã region, in the Northeast of Goiás, is preparing to take an important leap in socioeconomic development through fruit production in an irrigated system, with the technical contribution of Embrapa Cerrados (DF). The Unit is a partner in the “Irrigated Fruit Farming of Vão do Paranã” project, launched in 2023 by the Goiás State Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa/GO). The initiative aims to facilitate the irrigated production of fruits such as mango and passion fruit by 2,500 families of farmers settled under agrarian reform in Flores de Goiás, Formosa and São João d’ Aliança, municipalities supplied by the Paranã River and Ribeirão Porteira dams. Also participating in the project are the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valley Development Company (Codevasf), Emater/GO, Senar/GO and local city halls.
