Bulgaria is showing interest in durum wheat due to high quotations in the stock exchanges, as it is popular in Europe. The Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute has developed five varieties of durum wheat, but there was no response from grain producers. In 2021, there were almost no applications for durum wheat seeds. The institute maintains seed production of one variety due to contracts with Turkish partners. Despite higher quotes, farmers are uncertain about the sale of grain and seed companies are offering redemption of the harvest. Durum wheat is suitable for pasta and pasta production.
