Uruguay seems on track to achieve a production of around 3 million calves for three consecutive years. Although this can only be confirmed in about two years, the long cycles of cattle farming allow us to anticipate quite early on how things are going. And if it were a trick, the mouth is one piece and the other two cards are of the same suit. Previously, the experience showed that a year of relatively high pregnancy rates was followed by one of low rates, because cows found it difficult to cycle and raise the calf at the same time. That has been left behind in recent years and the conditions are such that three consecutive years with a calf production above or, at least, very close to 3 million can be recorded. The 2024 generation, the calves counted in the middle of this year, have already confirmed that they exceeded 3 million; those born this spring, according to the results of the INIA Pregnancy Workshop and the number of cows in the breeding herd, should be a similar number. ...
