The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) has praised the outcomes of the recent Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) meeting, highlighting the agreement on interim electronic monitoring standards for Eastern Pacific Ocean tuna fisheries as a major step towards sustainable management. The meeting also resulted in a two-year extension of tropical tuna management measures, enhanced monitoring for bigeye catches, and improved shark conservation regulations. Progress was made on FAD management with plans for a FAD register in 2025, although some topics like harvest strategies were deferred due to time constraints. ISSF remains committed to furthering the long-term protection of EPO tuna fisheries.
