The initial forecast for the 2026 crop indicates a reduction in the total grain production in the European Union and the United Kingdom, with an estimate of 296.7 million tons. The volume is below the 306.6 million tons harvested in 2025, in a movement attributed to the return of yields to levels considered normal after a year of exceptional results. The production of wheat, excluding durum wheat, is expected to reach 143.9 million tons, down from 147.5 million recorded the previous year. The expected drop in yields occurs despite recent rains, which favored soil moisture and ensured good development of the crops before winter. The areas allocated to the cereal tend to be slightly larger than those of the previous cycle.
