Ivory Coast is implementing biological rest in its hydrographic zones in 2024, divided into two phases. Maritime zone A, including the Aby lagoon and Grand-Lahou, will have a complete closure for artisanal maritime fishing units for one month, and semi-industrial and industrial units will have a two-month closure, excluding tuna. Tuna fishing in this zone will also be closed for two months in 2024. Zone B, including Kossou and Buyo lakes, will have a two-month closure from September to October. Preliminary results from monitoring fishing units after the opening of maritime fisheries in 2023 show a decrease in the duration of tides for industrial trawlers and sardine boats. This is the country's second consecutive year of implementing biological rest.
