A collaborative effort between the Northern Territory's Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the University of Melbourne, food processors, and major retailers is aiming to introduce ready-to-eat jackfruit products to the Australian market. This initiative seeks to capitalize on the rising demand for plant-based and tropical foods by offering innovative jackfruit products, such as jackfruit juice and packaged arils. The project also aims to establish a robust supply chain, maximize consumer engagement, and highlight the versatility of jackfruit. AgriFutures Australia has invested nearly $1 million in this project, which is focused on developing jackfruit products for the Australian market, with an annual industry value of approximately $2 million.
