The Japan GAP Association has reported a slight decrease in the number of certified farms in 2024, with a total of 6,993 farms and 2,139 certified farms across JGAP and ASIAGAP. Despite this, there has been a notable increase in the number of fresh produce farms, such as vegetables and fruits, while the number of tea farms has seen a significant decrease. The prefectures with the most certified farms are Shizuoka and Kagoshima, known for their agricultural production. The most common certified items are cabbage, tomatoes, and leaf lettuce. The association believes that the demand for certified agricultural products from food businesses focused on safety, sustainability, and SDGs is driving this trend.
