Japanese exports of frozen scallop meat to the United States saw a 26% increase in volume and 79% increase in value year-on-year, with the average price per kilogram being 3,586 yen. The trade volume and value of shelled scallops also surged, with a 313% increase and 528% increase in volume and value respectively. However, the scallop trade between Japan and China has been stagnant since September 2023, and Japan plans to discuss the resumption of seafood export trade to China during the upcoming China-Japan-South Korea summit.
