Vietnam's squid and octopus exports have seen a decline in the first five months of the year due to reduced demand and production challenges, with a 44% decrease in exports to Japan in May 2020. Despite being the second largest supplier of squid and octopus to Japan, Vietnamese businesses face competitive pressure from Indonesia. Japan's imports of these products reached US $146.9 million in the first five months of the year, a 4.4% decrease from the same period in 2019. The imports consist of various processed and fresh forms of squid and octopus, with processed squid being the largest proportion.
