Japan will enjoy all Australian table grape varieties

Japanese consumers will be able to enjoy all of Australia's table grape varieties, thanks to Japan's lifting of varietal import restrictions. Australian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt, highlighted how positive this decision is for the Australian table grape industry, as it provides greater export opportunities to a priority market for Australia. "Japan is Australia's second largest market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, and a valuable market for premium Australian fresh fruit," he said. He explained that before the uprising, his country was limited to exporting only three varieties of table grapes to the Asian nation - Crimson Seedless, Red Globe and Thompson Seedless - which caused a significant loss of market value. “The lifting of these restrictions is an important step forward for the industry, as Japan is a stable and sophisticated market that offers long-term growth opportunities,” he highlighted.
