Japan's aquaculture production declines last year

Recently, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries released a report on last year's seafood production. According to the report, Japan's aquaculture production recorded a decline last year to a total of 4,175,000 tons, and specifically, aquaculture production and inland aquaculture production decreased, while sponge aquaculture production increased. The total catch of aquatic products last year was 3,157,000 tons, down 2.2% from the previous year, while the catches of sardines, scallops and pollock, the main production fish species, increased, while mackerel and skipjack tuna decreased. In the case of aquaculture production, production increased mainly from horse mackerel, sea bream, scallops and seaweed production to 967,000 tons, up 5.7% from the previous year.
