Due to a surge in the prices of international agricultural products and increased logistics costs, the prices of various agricultural and sideline products in Japan have significantly risen. A small supermarket in Tokyo has reported a 3% to 10% increase in the price of sugar, butter, and a doubling of egg prices. The cost of edible oils has also surged, with a manufacturer announcing a price hike for July and August. Additionally, the price of wheat flour, used in bread, has risen by nearly 6% year-on-year. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has reported a 1.7% month-on-month rise in the international food price index in April, reaching its highest level in the past seven years. It is anticipated that the prices of agricultural products in Japan will remain high in the short term.
