The Jeju Farmers and Fisherman Emergency Response Committee in South Korea recently held a protest, urging the government to halt its efforts to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The farmers and fishermen are concerned that the partnership will negatively impact their industries, particularly tangerines, persimmons, and fisheries, by allowing cheap tropical fruits and radioactively contaminated agricultural and marine products from other countries. They argue that the CPTPP could lead to the decline of Jeju's agriculture and fisheries, which in turn would harm the region's economy.
