A large-scale project to revive Jeju's special seafood, the olive flounder, is starting. An investment of 5 billion won over five years will be made to create spawning grounds and habitats, with an expected economic effect of 125 billion won. Jeju announced that the "Jeju Olive Flounder Spawning and Habitat Creation Project" was finally selected as a new project site in 2026 at the 2025 Second Fisheries Resources Creation Evaluation Committee held by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries recently. This project is being carried out to restore the declining olive flounder resources due to changes in the marine environment and to establish a sustainable production system. From 2026 to 2030, over five years, three locations in Hallim-eup (Byang-ri, Geumneung-ri, Hyeopjae-ri) will be involved.
