Jeonnam Province recently proposed to the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Kang Hyeong-seok, to recognize the damage caused by the rapidly spreading rice seed-like pattern disease as an agricultural disaster. The rice seed-like pattern disease, which appears as black-brown rice seed-like patterns on the leaves and stems of rice due to high temperature and humidity and nutrient deficiency, causes poor grain filling and reduced production. According to Jeonnam Province's own survey, as of the end of September, the area affected by the rice seed-like pattern disease is approximately 10,000 hectares (provisional), which is 2.8 times larger than the same period last year and 2.3 times larger than the average. Based on this, Jeonnam Province explained to Vice Minister Kang the necessity for disaster recognition over the past month based on weather analysis, on-site opinions, and related research data, including rice harvest.
