Jeonnam Province proposes to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for recognition of rice and sesame leaf streak disease as a disaster.

The trend of spread and analysis of causes, including farmers' opinions, were comprehensively considered. Jeonnam Province recently proposed to the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Kang Hyeong-seok, to recognize the damage from the rapidly spreading mung bean mosaic disease as an agricultural disaster. Mung bean mosaic disease, which appears as black-brown mung bean-like patterns on the leaves and stems of rice due to high temperature and humidity and nutrient deficiency, causes poor grain filling and reduced production. According to Jeonnam Province's own survey, as of the end of September, the area affected by mung bean mosaic disease was approximately 10,000 hectares (tentative), which is 2.8 times more than the same period last year and 2.3 times more than the average year.
