Brazil: Joint effort prepares sweet potato seedlings for affected small farmers

Solidarity initiatives for those affected begin to take other directions after the emergency actions to save and protect lives. Rebuild is the watchword of the moment. And one of the most challenging reconstructions will be that of the territories of peasant and family agriculture. The small farmers affected lost crops, livestock, machinery, inputs, seeds, houses, warehouses and infrastructure for access and flow of production. Without a doubt, it is one of the most vulnerable sectors and runs the greatest risk of being made invisible after the water returns to its beds. With this factor in mind, volunteers from the Small Farmers Movement (MPA), Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) and Base Ecclesiastical Communities (CEBs) met last Monday (27) in Ijuí, at Viveiro São Francisco de Assis, to produce 5,000 sweet potato seedlings that will be shared with classmates affected by floods in rural territories.
