The European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2023-2027 has been implemented, marking a significant shift in agricultural subsidies. Hungary is set to receive around 1.3-1.4 billion euros annually from Pillar I subsidies. The policy has shifted towards sustainability and environmental protection, replacing the uniform area-based support and greening with a sustainability-promoting basic income support (BISS). The new policy also eliminates the upper limit on the subsidized area and introduces redistributive support for small and medium-sized farms. Furthermore, an Agro-Ecological Program has been launched to support climate- and environment-friendly farming practices.
