Scientists at the Krasnovodopadskaya Agricultural Plant in Kazakhstan have developed a new safflower variety called 'Waterfall-23.' This thornless variety has bright yellow flowers that turn red when dry and features white, elongated-round seeds. It is a mid-season crop that is both cold and drought-resistant, with a growing season of 85-115 days. 'Waterfall-23' boasts a fat content of 36-38% and an average yield of 8.3 c/ha, which is 36% higher than the standard.
