Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced a significant increase in the country's sunflower oil exports in 2023, with a 1.6 times rise to 364.4 thousand tons. The primary importers were Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and China. Additionally, the country experienced a 72% surge in the export of sunflower seed cake, a by-product used in livestock feed. The implementation of a 20% export customs duty on sunflower has boosted oil production and stabilized domestic market prices.
