Kazakhstan is considering a ban on the export of chilled and frozen fish in order to increase the production capacities of fish processing enterprises and promote the development of the fish processing sector. This move is expected to increase exports by ensuring the production of high added value fish products and increasing domestic consumption of fish. The country exports about 25 thousand tons of fish products, primarily deep processed fish fillets, and imports about 41 thousand tons of fish products. The government is also working to create conditions for the deep processing of harvested and farmed fish and to produce high value-added fish products. The country operates 72 fish processing enterprises, 17 of which have the right to export fish products to the European Union.
