Statistics show that the total number of cattle in the country reached 8.8 million heads, an increase of 8.3% year-on-year. Among them, the number of dairy cows is 4.5 million heads, with an increase of 16.3%; the number of calves is 2.7 million heads, with a year-on-year increase of 17.5%.

The number of small livestock (sheep and goats) is 21.5 million heads, with a year-on-year increase of 0.8%; the number of lambs born is 7.6 million heads, with a year-on-year increase of 4.8%.

The total number of horses is 4.7 million heads, with a year-on-year increase of 4.7%; the number of foals born is 1 million heads, with a year-on-year increase of 8.1%.

From January to June this year, the total meat production in the country was 529.9 thousand tons, with a year-on-year increase of 1.5%. Among them, beef production was 182.3 thousand tons, mutton 56.4 thousand tons, and horse meat 69.3 thousand tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that the rise in meat prices is driven by multiple factors, including increased costs of public services, energy, feed, and fuel, as well as strong export demand. From January to May 2025, Kazakhstan exported 12.3 thousand tons of beef, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 times; mutton exports were 9.2 thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.6 times.

Currently, there are 300 large livestock fattening farms and 15 small livestock fattening farms in the country, with a total capacity to accommodate 534 thousand heads of livestock. However, due to insufficient funds for purchasing young livestock and high bank loan costs, the utilization rate of fattening farms is only 34%.

To address this, the government has launched a preferential loan plan with an annual interest rate of 5% since July 30, for fattening farms to purchase young livestock, feed, and fuel, and has allocated 50 billion tenge for this purpose, aiming to increase the utilization rate to over 60%.

In addition, the "Игілік" project will be introduced in the future, providing loans at an annual interest rate of 6% for the introduction of high-quality livestock and improvement of breed structure.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that these measures aim to increase livestock production, stabilize market prices, and provide more high-quality meat products to residents.

It is worth mentioning that, according to data provided by state governments, the total capacity of grain storage facilities in the country is currently 30.9 million tons. Among them, the operating storage capacity of licensed grain receiving enterprises is 13.5 million tons, and the self-owned storage capacity of agricultural producers is 17.4 million tons. Combined with the remaining inventory from previous years, this total capacity is sufficient to meet the grain storage needs for this year.
