Kazakhstan's vegetable oil production increased by 27% year-on-year, with exports continuing to expand.

Sunflower seed oil production increased from 411,900 tons last year to 523,900 tons, a growth of 27.2%.

The planting area of oilseed crops also expanded significantly, from 2.9 million hectares in 2024 to 4 million hectares in 2025, with sunflower seed planting area reaching 1.7 million hectares.

Statistics show that the regions with the highest proportion of oilseed crop planting area are: North Kazakhstan (23.3%), Kostanay (23%), Pavlodar (12.5%), Abay (10.2%), Akmola (9.2%), and East Kazakhstan (7.7%).

Last year, the processing volume of oilseed crops reached 3.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 53%. Currently, there are 88 enterprises nationwide engaged in oil processing, with an annual production capacity of 4.7 million tons.

In terms of exports, plant oil exports increased by 29% in 2024 compared to 2023. The main export markets include China (42.4%), Uzbekistan (35.4%), Tajikistan (12.7%), Afghanistan (3.2%), Kyrgyzstan (1.4%), and Latvia and Turkmenistan (1.8%).

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that to promote industry development and ensure raw material supply for processing enterprises, Kazakhstan is taking a series of measures. According to the development concept of the agricultural and industrial complex by 2030, the plan is to gradually expand the planting area of oilseed crops. At the same time, preferential loans will be provided to enterprises that sign loan agreements to supplement working capital.

According to previous reports, starting from September 20, Kazakhstan will launch the second phase of the national agricultural census, with approximately 2,500 surveyors visiting households to collect data, expected to cover about 1.2 million households.
