In 2021, U.S. rice exports to El Salvador peaked at 86,000 metric tons (MT), but experienced a decline to 30,000 MT in 2022. Despite this, 2023 has seen a resurgence in exports, with over 44,000 MT valued at $21 million already imported, highlighting El Salvador as a key market for U.S. rice. Asiha Grigsby, the senior director of international promotion for the Western Hemisphere at USA Rice, visited El Salvador to engage with major stakeholders in the rice industry, including importers, retailers, and distributors. The visit aimed to fortify trade relations and included discussions on the development of U.S. rice varieties, partnerships, and promotional efforts such as the 'Piensa en Arroz' campaign, which seeks to enhance awareness and sales of U.S. rice in the region.
